NCHILERT’s main objective is to provide professional, safe helicopter assistance to regional fire & rescue agencies in the performance of their search & rescue responsibilities. The helicopter is only a “tool in the toolbox” to help you reduce rescuer risk while enhancing the assistance you are providing to your victim(s). If we can reduce the amount of search time required to locate a victim, or if we can quickly transport equipment to a difficult or remote rescue site, or deliver critical medications or supplies to stranded persons…then we have helped you help your victim(s). That is what NCHILERT has been about since 1995…one mission at a time. Our tools include a portable Forward Looking Infra-Red Camera (FLIR) that is capable of locating a person on the ground from the helicopter. It also features data logging for incident documentation. |

NCHILERT is equipped with a portable Forward Looking Infrared Camera system. This unit is able to indicate differences in temperatures. By using the unit we are able to spot this image of a person walking down a trail in the Dupont State Forest. This photo was taken in May through the tree canopy. |

Equipped with a complete cache of rescue equipment. NCHILERT crews are able to assist agencies with insertion of rescue equipment to rugged areas. |
| NCHILERT has developed a comprehensive program that may be delivered to students instructing them on the use of helicopters in search and rescue. This program may be tailored to suit a particular agency's needs, and typically includes actual practical application of skills learned in mock search or rescue scenarios. |
